A Splash of Color

This large wooden "orange" bowl I handpainted and sealed...
So much fun to have around ...fill it with oranges...
or add it to your decor for a splash of color...
both a decorative and functional piece that I really enjoyed making.
(check out older posts for lemon and lime bowls)
above and below: an original painting "Bloom & Grow"
which sets behind glass in an old window frame that I painted and distressed around the edges...with a custom granny smith polka dotted matting..
this charming decor picture would be just sweet in a lil girls room...
or even entry or livingroom...
heck, where ever you'de like it in your home, it's sure to make great impression.

below is a painting I did last year, but still have....and will be clearenced out at our next show at Bloss House. I used fabric for the lovely ruby tulips, and hand-painted the shadowing for a whimsical 3-d effect....One of my favs.
(all items in this post will be available at the Bloss House Outdoor Boutique in May...see our "Agenda" top of page )

Over the last past month or so, "The Hubs" and I have been working on furniture projects for an upcoming local show in May.

The hubs does most of the preping steps...all the sanding, reinforcing, filling, priming....you know, the boring stuff....but if there's one thing he does right...it's this. Always takes the time and care some of these "needy" pieces require for the best end product. I always sit and watch in amazment ...how patient he is...hmmm, think this is where "opposites attract" comes in...
okay, so I'm NEVER going to give him the "before" picture task....again....EVER.
I love how all the legs are chopped off ...and although extremely artistic...and vain.....I don't think everyone else will appreciate the car and self portiture images, Bubby.
great effort, though.I love you.

above: MY SIX LEGGED YARDSALE BEAUTY
...a little rough around the edges, but a great find...in fact, I fell in love
with her so deeply, that I've kept her in my livingroom.
Im pretty sure, forever.
below: finished

below: The Hub's

Okay, so the rotating mirror...not too bad shape, but needed some reinforcing
and a definite new paint or stain job...
HOW ABOUT   B O T H.
yes.

I, ashlee.nicole, have also been busy creating some new Spring/Summer Goodies...
above: a fun floral print Flutterby decorative pillow...just one of several to come in different shaps and sizes ...all original...( one thing you might like to know about me....I HATE PATTERNS!...everything you see that I've made[ie. bags, pillows, decor etc.], I make original...which makes for great character and originality in my pieces...all one-of a kind)
above: a fun and whimsical butterfly block to accent it's 6 piece " Blossom" set.
above and below: some fun lemon and lime wooden bowls for the summer!
hand-painted and sealed with water base sealant.

below: our first "Furniture Rehab" project...this one I am so proud of...Gil and I
had so much fun creating this  set...keeping the integrity and character of the pieces and
enhancing them with whimsey and modern touches....this set is our beginning...
a start of a new journey.

Let's see where it takes us...

Been "creating" for as long as I can remember...always drawing during church....or coloring. Think I made my first book when I was 5...it was about elephants. Made my first quilt when I was 12 (with mom's help of course)....all throughout highschool I won First Place and honorable mention ribbons at local Art Shows....whenever I was failing a class...I always remember teachers giving me "creative" extra credit tasks to bring my grades up.....I never could tell who enjoyed it more...me or them. I believe creativity is something we are all born with....some poeple just embrace it more...like lots more...like I don't think I make it through one day without using my gift...that's how it should be, eh.

I started off four, nearly five years ago....constructing bags...bags out of primarely second-hand materials...Trash Bags.
Had em in stores....in home purse parties, local festivals...sold online.....and still do. It's been loads of fun, but I get bored easy. I wanted to do more...hand-made home decor...painting...things of this nature...original-simplistic art and decor with modern touches. That's when
"THE HUMBLE BUNGALOW"
was born.
While recently redecorating our home, ON A BUDGET mind you.....a reeeeeally tight one.lol. we reused old and found many yardsale treasures...and basically gave them a new life...another run. People would stop as they drove by and ask "is that for sale?". After so much activity, and turned to The Hubs and said " we might as well try our hand at this..." and so......WE DID.

Put all of them together....my bags, hand-made home decor, and NOW our furniture:
T.H.E  H.U.M.B.L.E  B.U.N.G.A.L.O.W
It's turned into a family affair...lol

above: that's me....well, actually that's a really bad picture of me with my friend cut out...sorry Borges!.....and below....Now this...this is.....
this pic pretty much sums it up. YUP. what an organic capture, huh.
Next off.....our children....why? Because they are born with the "creative" gene....just dying to show the whole world ( okay, maybe lets switch that to " blog readers"....gotta start somewhere.) ....okay, just waiting to show this blog's viewer's ....REAL ART....
awww...my VERY sweet ...and VERY sour Margo.
nuf said...ya feel me? (you may recognize her from"bloom" pic)
and Mayce..."our son".......my absolute ANGEL....where do I even start with this guy.He just amazes me with every day ....he's kind, and well mannered....and UBER smart...wants to be a ROBOTIC ENGINEER when he "grows up". Now, where in the world?...and ohhhhhhh....the A R T I S T I C talent that is in this lil guys soul just BEYOND me....(heart heart heart this kid) can ya tell?  God really blessed us with a great one.

Now, that you've met the "family" ...and have learned a little more about me...about us...AND  our neverending passions to CREATE ...to make new from old.
PLEASE REVISIT OUR BLOG FREQUENTLY TO SEE WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO. TO SEE WHAT FUN A NEW ITEMS WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON.
